The CITROËN DS is one of my favorite cars. The DS awesome design is so rounded in all directions that blueprint technical view without perspective is difficult to achieve to meet the body right proportions. To get there, I spent more than 18 months to illustrate all CITROËN DS, taking care to be faithful to its timeless graphics while respecting the many changes of the model over 20 years of production. ABOUT THE CITROËN DS

The CITROËN DS is a car that has much evolved during its 20 years of production. Each new model year has brought its share of changes, not always easy to trace. It’s hard to imagine that CITROËN throw away even suitable parts before ending the factory stock … and some obsolete parts can be find for a short period on the assembly line. In summary, the CITROËN DS is available in 3 body types: Sedan, Estate, Convertible. 9 trim levels: DS, DS Pallas, DS Prestige, ID Normale, ID Luxe, ID Confort, ID Voiture de Maître, DSpecial, DSuper. 3 front faces were produced: 1st nose 1956 -1962, 2nd nose 1963-1967, 3rd nose 1968-1975. CITROËN DS “Confort”

1956-1975

The “DS” trim level (also named “Confort” by the fans but not by CITROËN!) is the only trim level that run through all the production time line, from the 1955 Paris Motor Show (Model Year 1956) to the 1975 DS 23 when the production stops in April 1975! The DS “Confort” comes with 19, 20, 21, 21 ie, 23, 23 ie engines (4 & 5 speeds manual gearbox, 4 speeds hydraulic gearbox and 3 speeds automatic B&W gearbox). How to recognize a CITROËN DS “Confort”? Full hubcaps & no side moldings.

CITROËN ID Normale Luxe Confort

1957-1969

The CITROËN ID is a simplified version of the CITROËN DS. It is available a year after the launch of the CITROËN DS for the period 1957-1969. The hydraulic circuit is simplified with the removal of the power steering, assisted braking and motorized gearbox. There remains only the oil and air suspensions of its big sister the CITROËN DS. The CITROËN ID is available in 3 trim levels: Normale (1957-1961), Luxe and Confort with 19 and 20 engines always with the 4-speed manual transmission. How to recognize a CITROËN ID? It has small hubcaps. The CITROËN ID Normale have black moldings around windows and the CITROËN ID Luxe has no windshield washer nozzle.

CITROËN DS Prestige

1959-1975

The CITROËN DS Prestige appears in 1959 on the basis of CITROËN DS « Confort » by including a partition wall between the front and rear seats. The CITROËN DS Prestige comes only in black with black C pillars. The arrival of the CITROËN DS Pallas in 1965 does not modify the chrome embellishments of the CITROËN DS Prestige that reamains more discreet. It was not until 1972 that the CITROËN DS Prestige is equipped as standard CITROËN DS Pallas and took the name CITROËN DS Prestige-Pallas! The CITROËN DS Prestige come with 19, 20, 21, 21 ie, 23, 23 ie engines (4 & 5 speeds manual gearbox, 4 speeds hydraulic gearbox and 3 speeds automatic B&W gearbox). How to recognize a CITROËN DS Prestige? Black C pillar, large hubcaps, partition wall.

CITROËN ID Voiture de Maître

1959-1961

The CITROËN ID Voiture de Maître is the ID that the DS is the DS Prestige. It’s a CITROËN ID with an interior partition wall. She has the shortest career in the DS family with only 3 years of production. Like the CITROËN DS Prestige, the CITROËN ID Voiture de Maître is black with black C pillars. The CITROËN ID Voiture de Maître comes only with the 19 engine and the4 speeds manual gearbox. How to recognize a CITROËN ID Voiture de Maître? Black C pillar, small hubcaps, partition wall.

CITROËN ID BREAK Luxe Confort

1960-1975

The CITROËN ID BREAK was introduced in the 1958 Paris motor show with a prototype. The Start of Production begins the next year with the 1960 model year. The CITROËN ID BREAK is close to the ID trim level (dashboard and hubcaps). Luxe & Confort trim level are both proposed. The CITROËN ID BREAK is also named SAFARI (UK & AUS), WAGON (USA), STATION WAGON (AUS) or ESTATE (UK). The CITROËN ID BREAK comes with 19, 20, 21, 23, engines (4 & 5 speeds manual gearbox and 4 speeds hydraulic gearbox). How to recognize a CITROËN ID BREAK? Two side-facing jump seats in the main load area.

CITROËN ID COMMERCIALE Luxe

1960-1974

The CITROËN ID COMMERCIALE is very close to the BREAK. It is only available with the Luxe trim level. It has no jump seats. The first 600 BREAK & COMMERCIALE have the upper body paint in the same color than the lower body, except the roof that remains grey. The CITROËN ID COMMERCIALE comes with 19, 20, 21, 23 engines (4 & 5 speeds manual gearbox, 4 speeds hydraulic gearbox). How to recognize a CITROËN ID COMMERCIALE? Only 2 rows of seats, no jump seat in the back.

CITROËN ID FAMILIALE Luxe Confort

1960-1975

The CITROËN ID FAMILIALE is launched a couple of months after the BREAK and the COMMERCIALE and after the first 600 cars. The CITROËN ID FAMILIALE is the perfect car for a large family with 8 seats and a small trunk! Luxe & Confort trim level are both proposed. The CITROËN ID FAMILIALE comes with 19, 20, 21, 23, 23 (4 & 5 speeds manual gearbox, 4 speeds hydraulic gearbox). How to recognize a CITROËN ID FAMILIALE? 3 rows of seats, all facing front, with 3 foldable jump seats in the middle.

CITROËN ID AMBULANCE Confort

1960-1975

The CITROËN ID AMBULANCE is the last derivative from the CITROËN ID BREAK. Only the Confort trim level is proposed. The first CITROËN ID AMBULANCE comes with a Flag on the side fixed on the B pillar and a spot on the roof rack! The CITROËN ID AMBULANCE comes with 19, 20, 21, 21, 23, engines (4 & 5 speeds manual gearbox, 4 speeds hydraulic gearbox). How to recognize a CITROËN ID AMBULANCE? 60/40 split seats in the back, no jump seats in the main load area.

CITROËN DS CABRIOLET

1961-1973

The CITROËN DS CABRIOLET is the most desirable DS. It is also name “découvrable” by CITROËN. The DS CABRIOLET is produced by CHAPRON for CITROËN on reinforced DS frame and call factory convertible in opposition of the first CABRIOLET made by CHAPRON. The DS CABRIOLET comes with 19, 21, 21 ie, 23, 23 ie engines (4 speeds manual gearbox and 4 speeds hydraulic gearbox). How to recognize a CITROËN DS CABRIOLET? It comes with a DS dashboard type and still cost a lot of money!

CITROËN ID CABRIOLET

1961-1965

The CITROËN ID CABRIOLET is a very rare version of the DS familiy. It is produced for the model years 1961 to 1965. It is very close to the DS CABRIOLET. The main difference is the dashboard (ID type). Even the hubcaps were DS type. The CITROËN ID CABRIOLET comes only with the 19 engine and the 4 speeds manual gearbox. How to recognize a CITROËN ID CABRIOLET? ID dashboard type (mostly with white steering wheel).

CITROËN DS Pallas

1965-1975

The DS Pallas trim level is the high end of the CITROËN DS family. It appears almost 10 years after the launch in 1964 (model year 1965) and run through 1975. By introducing this luxury upgrade, both in terms of materials (leather, thick carpet) and chrome embellishments , the DS is at its peak , especially for 1967 with the new 21 engine and LHM hydraulic liquid. Like the DS « Confort » the DS Pallas come with 19, 20, 21, 21 ie, 23, 23 ie engines (4 & 5 speeds manual gearbox, 4 speeds hydraulic gearbox and 3 speeds automatic B&W gearbox). How to recognize a CITROËN DS Pallas? The only trim level with side moldings.

CITROËN DSpecial

1970-1975

The CITROËN DSpecial is the entry level of the CITROËN DS family. It appears for the period 1970-1975 (model year) to replace the ID 19 with a new marketing fancy name. The CITROËN DSpecial is relatively bare but offers a competitive price tag. The CITROËN DSpecial comes with 19 & 20 engines with 4 speeds manual gearbox. How to recognize a CITROËN DSpecial? Gray windshield seal and black trumpets roof blink. Luckily, it is also written on the boot lid!

CITROËN DSuper DSuper5

1970-1975

The CITROËN DSuper is very close from the CITROËN DS “Confort” trim level, only its smal hubcaps (ID type) betray its origin. It appears for the period 1970-1975 (model year) to replace the ID 20 with a name echoing the DSpecial. The CITROËN DSuper is available only with the 20 engine associated with the 4-speed manual transmission. As an option it is available with the 5-speed manual transmission. In 1973 that will become a separate model with the CITROËN DSuper5 (all in one word) in addition to the DSuper. How to recognize a CITROËN DSuper? Chrome trumpets roof blink, grey windshield seal and small hubcaps. Luckily, it is also written on the boot lid!
